SHO manages the Meals on Wheels Program for the towns of South Kingstown and Narragansett as well as recruiting volunteers for sites throughout South County. The program provides nutritious noontime meals to people who are homebound or recovering from a hospital stay.
In addition to the delivery of meals, this program provides a daily safety check. Meals on Wheels provides a sense of relief to families and friends who worry about the proper nutrition and health of their loved ones.
Volunteers are involved with packing food into containers and delivering the meals in their own vehicles. If desired, volunteers can be reimbursed for mileage.
Typically, the meals are packed between 10 and 10:30 am. Drivers are usually back at the distribution site around noon.
SHO has regular drivers and substitute drivers who provide backup for times when the regular drivers have a scheduling conflict.
