The Volunteer Resource For Southern Rhode Island

Senior Companions

Senior Companions are healthy, older (60 or over), adults who help other adults live independently. They provide support to family caregivers, assist with grocery shopping and other daily tasks necessary to maintain independence. They also encourage clients to stay active and make sure they take their medicine.

They volunteer for 20 hours of work a week. Unlike all other SHO volunteers, they receive a small stipend if they are financially qualified.

Some people may confuse the Senior Companion program with the Friendly Visitors program, but Senior Companions, of course, provide far more extensive services.
