SHO serves as a clearing house for community service opportunities countywide and in Jamestown. Volunteers age 18 or over are offered opportunities throughout the county. Student volunteers ages 13 to 17 may volunteer at the SHO offices.

Beechwood House, North Kingstown
Beechwood House needs Meals on Wheels drivers for alternate Fridays, 10 a.m. to noon. Substitute drivers also are needed.
Charlestown Chamber of Commerce
The chamber needs ticket collectors, raffle-table helpers and kiddie-ride assistants for its Seafood Festival. Four-hour shifts are available on August 1, 2 and 3.
Galilee Mission to Fishermen
The Mission is seeking a computer programmer able to impart knowledge of basic programs to others.
Habitat for Humanity, Charlestown
Habitat is offering volunteer opportunities galore! They include webmaster, tool organizer, driver, office clerical assistant, grant researcher, sign-maker, gardener, church liaison, and marketing and administrative assistants for the ReStore.
Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale
The center needs Food Pantry assistants to stock shelves and distribute food. Choose a two- or three-hour shift, Tuesdays through Saturdays.
North Kingstown Senior Center.
Share your knowledge of computers with older adults at the Center. Teach computer basics one afternoon a week from 1-3 p.m.
SHO (Serving Communities, Helping Others, Opportunities for All)
Serve South County's communities by joining a committee dedicated to supporting SHO itself.
Choose Marketing to devise promotion materials and organize events, or join Community Relations for work that educates the public about SHO and its services.
Committee Membership also offers a chance to advance to SHO's Board of Directors.
SHO is a clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities. Adults 18 and older are always welcome; a few positions for teens, ages 13 to 17, are also available at the SHO office. Call 789-2362 or email to mail@southernrivol.org.
Join the SHO Volunteer Office Team. SHO needs receptionists to assist elders by telephone and perform general office tasks. Shifts are available Thursdays, 1-4 p.m. from now through May.
Friendly Visitors
There is an an urgent need for volunteers to spend an hour a week chatting, playing cards and sharing interests with homebound seniors in South County.
Meals on Wheels
Help provide essential nutrition for your neighbors by filling the critical need for Meals on Wheels drivers. Routes are available Wednesdays and Thursdays in South Kingstown, Kingston and Narragansett. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Medical transportation
Many people in South County have no means of transportation, but still need to get to medical appointments. Westerly, Richmond, Hopkinton, and Charlestown are areas of critical need. This is a flexible opportunity; volunteers are called as needed and have the option of refusing when the time is inconvenient. Mileage reimbursement is available.
SHO-South County Citizens Corps program.
Prepare to help in times of crisis. The program seeks volunteers to staff shelter teams in South Kingstown, Narragansett, North Kingstown, Exeter, Charlestown, Richmond, Hopkinton and Westerly. Red Cross training will be provided.
SHO needs researchers with computer skills to research grant requirements, and writers with skills in rhetoric to write and submit grants.
South County Museum
The museum has several volunteer job opportunities. It is looking for people to tend the flower beds, maintain the herb garden, greet visitors, conduct tours, and help build exhibits.
Storehouse
Storehouse at the First Church of God in Peace Dale needs a cook to prepare and help serve a community meal, one Friday per month. Training will be provided.
Turning Pointe Therapeutic Riding Center, Ashaway
The center, which offers horse-assisted rehabilitative therapies to the disabled, needs horse side-walkers, riding-lesson assistants, horse-barn helpers and horse leaders.
Washington County Fair
Join the staff of the Pomona Grange Kitchen booth at the fair. Positions include food preparation, clean-up and cashier. Work the 3-7 or 7-11 shift on August 13, 15 16 or 17, and get free admission to the fair.
Westerly Senior Center
The Center needs volunteers to serve the noon meal and help with cleanup. Shifts are available Mondays through Fridays, noon to 1.
Wood River Health Services
Extravert alert: Wood River needs people with outgoing personalities to greet patients and direct them to the proper area within the health center. Morning shifts are available.
