The Volunteer Resource For Southern Rhode Island

South County Citizen Volunteer Corps

A project of SHO
It can happen here: Scenes from the winter storm throughout the Midwest in December, 2007. New England has been known to experience this kind of weather, so neighbors have to be ready to help each other. That's what the Citizen Volunteer Corps is all about.

We're looking for volunteers for the Volunteer Corps. Citizens of all ages are welcome. Children under 16 years must volunteer with parents or guardians.

How to prepare for disaster threats

What to take — and not to take — to the shelter

Volunteers are trained and ready to respond through partnerships and service to Emergency Management directors in individual municipalities. The RI Citizens Corps Council through RIEMA provides leadership and support for this entire community effort. Training is conducted by various agencies and Emergency Management in disaster preparedness, CPR, first aid, shelter care, points of distribution, community CERT (Citizen Emergency Response Teams), and pet evacuation.
